According to Nova one advisor, the global Bladder Scanners market size was valued at USD 183 million in 2021 and is predicted to hit USD 525 million by 2030 with a registered CAGR of 6.2% during the forecast period 2022 to 2030.

Bladder scanner is a noninvasive portable tool used to diagnose, manage, and treat urinary outflow dysfunction. It is primarily used to understand the dysfunction of the lower urinary tract by interpreting the patient’s symptoms. Bladder scanner also determines the cause of these indications through suitable observations that help in programming an appropriate treatment regimen for bladder dysfunctions including benign prostatic hyperplasia, bladder neck obstruction, urinary incontinence, prostatitis, and stress incontinence. Catheter-related infections are less frequent with intermittent insertion than with indwelling placement. However, catheterization, as a routine procedure, increases the risk of infection. It can also cause mental and physical discomfort to patients. Nearly 80% of patients on urethral catheterization develop urinary tract infections, which are caused by various microorganisms forming colonies in the urinary system and perineal region.

Bladder scan ultrasound procedures are used for the measurement of bladder volume instead of catheterization in post-operative urinary dysfunction. Ultrasound bladder scanner provides an accurate, simple, and quick measurement of pre- and post-void bladder volume in urinary disturbance cases. Rapid increase in catheter-associated urinary tract infections is anticipated to propel the global bladder scanner market size during the forecast period. A large number of patients suffering from urological dysfunctions require effective diagnostic solutions for an efficient treatment regimen.

Increase in Geriatric Population to Drive Global Bladder Scanners Market

The geriatric population is susceptible to a range of urinary disorders that are multifactorial in origin, especially urinary incontinence and urinary retention disorders. Functional impairment bladder scanners act as valuable tools in the investigation of urinary disorders. Presence of large numbers of elderly individuals has led to an increase in the patient pool in major regions of the world. According to World Health Organization (WHO), the global geriatric population is expected to reach around 2 billion (22% of the global population) by 2050 from around 962 million in 2017. The global geriatric population is projected to increase at the fastest rate in developed countries such as the U.S., the U.K., and Japan. Brazil, China, Thailand, and South Korea are likely to account for large share of geriatric population in the shortest span of time in the near future. The aging population is more prone to various age-related as well as chronic diseases. Thus, rapid growth in geriatric population in several countries is driving the demand for bladder scanners.

Rise in Incidence of Urological Dysfunction Propelling Global Bladder Scanners Market

Currently, large number of people across the world are suffering from a number of cardiovascular, neurological, urological, and others disorders. Patients need to be diagnosed in detail in order to understand the cause and condition of the disorder or dysfunction. Most patients, especially those suffering from urinary incontinence, urinary retention disorders, multiple sclerosis, or neurological disorders; and those who undergo genital or prostrate surgery, require urodynamic tests and diagnosis. Increase in incidence of these chronic disorders has augmented the demand for bladder scanning equipment.

According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, currently, around 20 million women and 6 million men suffer from urinary incontinence in the U.S. As per the National Health Service (NHS), 3 million to 6 million people in the U.K. suffer from some degree of urinary incontinence each year. Thus, large numbers of patients across the globe would require bladder scanners at one or the other instance during their lifetime. According to the NHS urinary incontinence prevalence survey, women are more prone to the urinary incontinence disorder due to the risk of side effects of childbirth and menopause, while men are more prone to urinary retention disorders. Thus, increase in incidence of various urinary disorders and rise in demand for advanced treatment options are likely to boost the global bladder scanners market in the near future.

Potential Patient Pool in Emerging Countries Augmenting Global Bladder Scanners Market

Large number of people aged above 65 are currently suffering from urinary incontinence and urine retention disorders. The geriatric population in developed countries is increasingly undergoing catheterization for various lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Countries such as China, Thailand, India, and Russia offer significant opportunities in the bladder scanners market. Increase in incidence rate of LUTS and rise in awareness about affordable bladder scanners among patients in emerging countries are expected to drive the market for bladder scanners. According to a report by Ananias C. Diokno, MD, Chief of Urology, William Beaumont Hospital, Michigan, the U.S., approximately 17% of the geriatric population in Thailand suffers from urinary incontinence, followed by the Philippines (13%), India (12%), Taiwan (12%), and South Korea (8%). Thus, presence of a large patient pool with unmet medical needs in several emerging economies is likely to contribute to the growth of the market in the near future.

Increase in Adoption of Portable Bladder Scanners Across Globe

In terms of product, the global bladder scanners market has been classified into bench top bladder scanners, portable bladder scanners, and handheld bladder scanners. The portable bladder scanners segment dominated the global market in 2021. Portable bladder scanners reduce hospital costs by decreasing the number of catheterizations, UTIs, and nursing time involved. This is projected to drive the portable bladder scanners segment during the forecast period. The handheld bladder scanners segment is expected to grow at a high CAGR during the forecast period due to ease of handling and circumferential measurement capability for more accurate results.

Regional Outlook of Global Bladder Scanners Market

North America held the major share of the global bladder scanner market in 2021. The region is expected to maintain its dominance in the market during the forecast period. This can be ascribed to the presence of key players in the region such as Verathon, Inc., dBMEDx, Inc., Vitacon, and LABORIE. Additionally, North America offers significant opportunities in reselling and refurbishing bladder scanner devices, as developing countries are eager to buy good quality bladder scanner devices that are priced economically. Availability of technologically advanced bladder scanner devices is anticipated to drive the market in North America.

Asia Pacific is expected to be a promising market for bladder scanners. China is likely to be the largest market for bladder scanners in Asia Pacific during the forecast period. Demand for low-priced diagnostic technologies is high in several developing countries in Asia Pacific.
