The automotive central body control module (BCM) is a processor-based power distribution center that controls the multiple functions related to the car body such as door modules, interior & exterior lighting, windows, security, door locks & access control, and various safety features. Generally, the body control module (BCM) is a type of embedded system used for controlling electrical system in vehicles.

The key player in the automotive manufacturing started offering the latest technology based infotainment system in vehicle. For instance, in September 2018, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi and Google joined forces for next-gen infotainment system. The launch for the same is expected by 2021. This situation is expected to lead the increase in demand for body control modules (BCM) in near future. Also, the launch of new LIN bus allows up to 16 LIN RGB slave modules on a private LIN bus, thus it permits up to 196 LED lighting devices to be connected to a single BCM via a LIN bus. For instance, in November 2018, Volkswagen is replacing analog display technology behind the steering wheel with a freely configurable, high-resolution, and curved display.

The major factors that drive the growth of the global BCM market include increase in demand for advanced safety, comfort, and convenience features in vehicles; stringent regulations from governments; and increase in demand for automotive. Simultaneously, research is also being undertaken to manufacture low-cost controlling modules that is expected to boost the market growth. There is an increase in the demand for active safety features such as driver assistance systems in vehicles and is expected to propel the growth of the global BCM market during the forecast period. However, increase in complexity is expected to hamper the growth of the global market. The increase in demand for electric as well as hybrid vehicles, rise in sales of automotive vehicles across the globe, and surge in need for advanced driver assist features in new vehicles are the factors anticipated to boost the body control module market growth in the near future.

BCMs are embedded systems with embedded software, which are responsible for increase in line count, complexity, and sophistication of BCMs. OEMs using BCMs have to manage the increase in complexity leading to failure of services in vehicles. Similarly, incorporation of BCMs results in complex structure of network and communication & interfacing problem with controlling units. Thus, all these factors are expected to hinder the growth of the body control module market in the near future.

The There is an increase in demand for electric and hybrid vehicles owing to rise in need for pollution control systems and implementation of stringent emission standards. Electric vehicles require body controlling units to manage the electric energy and other equipment such as power-train, battery, and transmission system. Rise in trend of using eco-friendly and fuel-efficient vehicles promoted by the Climate Change Agreement in Paris further boosts the growth of this market. Moreover, constant support & huge funding received from various governments for the development of advance technology in vehicles is expected to create lucrative opportunity for the expansion of the body control module market.
